The memorial obelisk dedicated to George Parker Bidder, Q.C., was erected on Mitcham Common in 1896, almost 130 years ago. It is Grade II listed with Historic England.
The Revitalisation Project proposes that repairs are made to the inscription and base.
The inscription on the front of the memorial is becoming unreadable.

The obelisk is made of granite, and is about 9.5 feet high, at its base it is 3 feet wide and 2 feet deep, and may weigh about 4 tons.
It is positioned on a concrete plinth, about 1 foot deep.

The obelisk sits at an angle on the plinth. This view is from the rear, north side of the obelisk.

The plinth needs to be inspected and may need repair.
The plinth is 4 feet 9 inches on its north and south sides, and 3 feet 6 inches on its west and east sides. The obelisk sits on it at an angle.

The plinth is surrounded by a grassy area bounded by railings.

There is a gate in the railings for access to the obelisk. It is currently secured by a nut and bolt, and it is proposed that a digital lock be fitted.

Each side of the railings is 11 feet 9 inches, and this square sits on a mound. It is not known what is beneath the obelisk.
In addition to the memorial obelisk, a stone tablet memorial in the Mitcham Parish Church may need cleaning/restoration.
